The Royal Oak in Gorley is a well-loved New Forest institution, attracting locals and visitors alike for hearty food and a warm welcome.
The existing kitchen had become outdated and inefficient; the unorthodox layout no longer met the needs of a modern commercial food operation.
We worked directly with the client and a commercial kitchen design specialist to develop a fully revised, highly functional layout. From strip-out to commissioning, our team managed the entire fit-out package.
Key elements included:
- Full strip-out to bare brick
- Upgrade of all M&E services including power, plumbing & ventilation
- Fire boarding and hygiene wall finishes for compliance and durability
- Installation of stainless steel commercial units and surfaces
- Rational ovens and commercial-grade equipment throughout
- Improved extraction and safety systems
Delivered as part of a wider refurbishment programme, the extensive works were completed with six weeks. The result is a professional, efficient workspace built to handle the demands of a thriving gastropub—setting the venue up for continued success.
Phil and his team built a 3 bay car garage for us, in traditional brick and slate to match the main house. It was a complicated sloping site involving piling and reinforced raft construction. Bricks sourced were matching imperial size which were hard to find, and the overhanging eaves had carved timber corbels which had to be specially made. The slated roof was hipped and very prominent so the quality of slating needed to be high.
The on- site team were a great group of people and were friendly and professional. There was good forward planning and attention to detail and the whole company is very responsive, and they genuinely are concerned to put out good quality workmanship.
On the office side, record keeping was good and comprehensive. We found their way of working to be very co-operative. In my ‘other life’ I am a Building Surveyor and have spent many years working with contractors, and would say that PWH are up with some of the best I have worked with in terms of organisation, quality and friendliness.
PWH Building are a bit of an enigma in our current climate of trades and builders. PWH delivered an extensive building project for me, on budget and on time.
Their no nonsense, nothing is too much trouble approach was truly refreshing.
The team were highly professional in their approach to sensitive neighbours, and worked seamlessly with other contractors. If you are looking for trusted building professionals, I would highly recommend the PWH Team. Let them take the stress out of your project.
